Dreaming of Magnolia

***

When I first saw a Magnolia tree
laden with blossom
I felt nothing but awe
Manifestation of grace,
sinless flames yet to explode
as garlands on its majestic boughs,
pierced me through
like a heartfelt voice of Nina Simone

When I saw my Magnolia tree
levitating in the air
by a profusion of rose-winged doves
I surrendered my heart
and supplicated
for an embrace on fragile arms
to lace the skies and flame in full
while basking in the nectar
of the eternal Light

And now I see my Magnolia tree
mourning for an ocean of petals
– fine eggshell boats afloat –
unhurriedly leaving
a harbor of Now
I tremble
in the shadow of greatness
Only the silent Sun may foreknow
to which of the endless horizons
my heart’s boat is going to float
