Hello Light Seekers! Awesome to see you here!

Do you love street photography? Us too! We are excited to invite you to join our very first small-group photo walk exploring the photographic charm of Padova.

Our meeting will take place on Sunday, May 29, 3:00 pm. We will meet at the side entrance of The Cultural Center of San Gaetano (Centro Culturale San Gaetano), Padova.

The gathering will be three-fold: a visit to an exhibit (free), a conversation with an aspiring street photographer, and a heritage-preservation / architectural photography challenge.

Here is the snapshot of the tentative itinerary:

PART 1:

At 3:00 pm we will head to the exhibition of Giovanni Umicini’s work depicting more than 50 years of Padova’s life in its streets and squares.

“In addition to a few woman, I fell in love with this city. Its beauty lies in people: men, women, children. Walking, working, kissing. Every time I go out in the streets, I see a new film in front of me, “ – says Giovanni Umicini.

We plan to spend 45 minutes viewing and discussing the works of Umicini, one of Padova’s best known street photographers, and getting inspired with his ability to synthesize everyday life scenes, learning from his talent for storytelling and intimate style. This exhibition will provide us an opportunity to see a time-lapse portrait of Padova through the eyes of someone who “fell in love” with the city and who invested all his life to document fragments of Padova’s life. Umicini’s photographic style is an excellent example of using “timeless” photography to depict the vivid beauty of our beloved city, that many of us call Home.

PART 2:

After having indulged some inspiring ideas and perspectives, at around 3:45 pm, we will gather on the white leather couches for a discussion with Nicola Barbuti about the fascinating world of street photography. Nicola will share his personal story as well as some insights into street photography, with whatever equipment you have, including proven experimental techniques to help you break the ice and get you over your fears and apprehension of shooting the amazing people you see in the streets of any city of the world.

PART 3:

At 4:15 pm we will split into smaller groups (led by Olivija, Nicola, and myself) and head out for a challenge: to shoot “selected” locations of the Old Town. You will also have an opportunity to learn something more about Padova’s amazing history, iconic architecture & the international characters that fill the city’s past. To keep some suspense, the “challenge” locations will remain secret until we meet. After each group has completed their “secret” trajectory, that is after 1.5 hours of exploration, at around 6:00 pm, we will reunite for an aperitivo and discussion of the day and photography in Piazza Duomo.

What to Bring:

• Camera with manual controls
• Optics: This is your chance to use your 50mm lens! Any wide angle zoom, ranging from 10 mm to 70 mm, will be fine too!
• Remember to charge your camera batteries, bring memory cards, and extra rolls of film if you plan to shoot analog!
• Comfortable footwear: Padova streets are high-heal unfriendly!

What to leave at home:

• Flashes, reflectors, tripods

In sum, this photo walk is designed both to enjoy socializing, conversing as well as taking to another level the way we see and interact with people in the streets, the way we uncover our own unique style in creating engaging street photographs.

Hope to see some of you there, joining in the fun.

Questions, comments, more info? Fire away!

Cheers,

Olivija, Nicola, Inga
